Unique Status

As an international organization subject to international law, the EDB has a unique judicial status:

  • it is subject to international law;
  • in its member states it has the rights of a judicial body;
  • it has a special legal status that accords the Bank certain immunities and privileges in the territory of its member states, including:
  • administrative and judicial immunity;
  • customs and tax exemptions;
  • advantages that allow the Bank to avoid certain costs and risks associated with potential changes in banking regulations in its member states.
