EDB Receives Three ADFIAP Awards for Sustainable Development Projects

Colombo, Sri Lanka, September 2026 — The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has received three awards from the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) for projects implemented in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The award ceremony took place during the 49th ADFIAP Annual Meeting in Colombo.

The awards were received by Vera Barkatina, Head of the EDB's Technical Assistance Fund Coordination Office.

The National Water Resources Information System of Kazakhstan received a Merit Award in the "Technology Development" category. The system creates the foundation for digital water resource management — from monitoring to planning. The system was developed with grant support from the EDB Digital Initiatives Fund.

The wheat flour fortification project in Tajikistan, implemented jointly with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), received a Merit Award in the "Corporate Social Responsibility" category. The project helps address "hidden hunger" — micronutrient deficiencies affecting millions of people. Through the project, 10 flour mills were equipped for flour fortification, and around 70% of the country's population will receive essential micronutrients through daily bread consumption.

The project to establish an international financial platform in Tashkent was named Winner in the "Local Economic Development" category. The platform is designed as a comprehensive financial and business ecosystem: it creates a special zone with its own legal and regulatory regime, where investors and financial institutions can operate under transparent international rules. According to expert assessments, the project has the potential to attract several billion US dollars in additional investment to Uzbekistan's economy and strengthen the country's position as a regional financial hub.

"These awards are recognition that our projects change people's lives for the better. We don't just finance infrastructure — we create systems that work for years after completion," said Nikolai Podguzov, Chairman of the EDB Management Board.

ADFIAP awards are presented annually to development institutions in the Asia-Pacific region for projects that demonstrate a measurable contribution to sustainable development. This year, the EDB also presented its vision for regional integration at the forum: Vera Barkatina, Head of the EDB's Technical Assistance Fund Coordination Office, spoke about how the Bank prepares projects and creates institutional conditions for investment through technical assistance.
